Timing chain or Ford wet belt work in East Grinstead? We’re 7 miles west of East Grinstead High Street, on the Copthorne side of the A264 — easily the nearest specialist timing chain workshop. We cover all of RH19 and the surrounding villages including Forest Row, Lingfield, Felbridge, Ashurst Wood, Hartfield and Hammerwood for free vehicle collection.

East Grinstead’s dedicated timing chain workshop

East Grinstead is largely BMW and Ford country — a real mix of older diesel commuters and newer 1.0 EcoBoost family cars. We see all the usual suspects:

  • Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost — the wet belt fails on age as well as mileage.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost — same belt, same issue, often higher mileage.
  • Ford Puma 1.0 EcoBoost (mHEV) — newer car, same belt-in-oil design.
  • Ford Kuga 1.5 EcoBlue — wet belt and timing components.
  • Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue — commercial use exposes the belt fast.
  • BMW 1, 3, 5 Series diesels (N47, B47) — timing chain stretch.
  • BMW X1, X3, X5 (N47, N57) — same chains, same wear pattern.

Why East Grinstead drivers pick us over the main dealer

  • Hundreds of pounds cheaper on most timing chain and wet belt jobs vs main-dealer pricing.
  • OEM parts only — same components the dealer would use.
  • One-job specialists — we’re not bouncing between MOTs, brakes and tyres. Timing chains and wet belts all day, every day.
  • Plain English — we’ll show you the worn part, explain why it failed, and tell you what to watch for next time.
  • 12-month parts and labour warranty.

Don’t drive a car with a known chain or wet belt problem. We come and get it — from East Grinstead, Forest Row, Lingfield, Felbridge, Ashurst Wood and the surrounding hamlets — at no charge. If you’ve already broken down, we can recover with our trailer. Call 01342 643 780 and we’ll arrange it the same day where possible.

What’s the worst that happens if I keep driving?

On a BMW with a stretched chain, the chain skips a tooth or two, the valves hit the pistons, and the engine is finished. Replacement engines for an N47-equipped 320d typically start around £3,500 fitted on top of the labour to swap them — you’d be far better off replacing the chain at £1,200–£2,000 fitted before that happens.

On a Ford 1.0 EcoBoost with a shedding wet belt, fragments of rubber block the oil pump pickup. The engine loses oil pressure, the bearings fail in seconds, and again you’re looking at a full engine replacement — £4,000+ on a car that may be worth less than that. A wet belt replacement at a few hundred pounds is the cheapest insurance you’ll ever buy.
